《西洋哲学史》讲述了人类的哲学思潮由古代发展到现在，以产生的背景（包括自然环境与社会环境）不同，大别可分为东西两大支。东支的分为印度与中国两系，到了东汉以后，印度系输入中国系，经魏、晋、隋、唐的发展，至宋、明由道学家加以调和融摄，便产生了中国的中古哲学——即所谓“新儒家”的哲学。
