苏联的最后几年时间，社会全面崩溃消解。历史真相的揭露让人们从恐惧中解脱，而一旦恐惧的压力消失，一切罪恶和荒谬暴露在阳光之下，看似无比强大的统治机器好像一下子被人拔掉了插头。保守派的腔调在今天中国人看来尽然是如此熟悉，让人不寒而栗。苏联消亡的历史中，各色人物你来我往，再细看，其中大多数居然能在今日中国找到对应。不知道我们这里的终局会是如何到来，毕竟经济基础差异太大，然而Com体制的内在缺陷和矛盾，是无论如何技术修补都无法克服的，这可以说是历史的必然。有生之年，必能见到。

总感觉这不是一组客观的报道，而是有了主题和立意，再去做的采访，所以到最后也不是那么喜欢。偶有振聋发聩之句，例如“一个政权倘若承认过去的错误，就等于自取灭亡”
作为一个正处帝国历史最关键时刻的外国记者，雷姆尼克仔细而深入地观察了那个社会，与当时苏联从上到下各方人物均有广泛接触，并且对历史也有着极其深入的了解，雷姆尼克同时在这些接触与了解之中，更有自己独特的分析与判断，因此此书不但颇具可读性，且目光犀利，分析精到，判断准确，到现在仍有启示意义。是我所看关于这个帝国最后时刻书籍中，最值得一读的书了。书名也不错，直指核心，一目了然。

写得好好，就像这个quote: The struggle of man against power is the struggle of memory against forgetting.
看了3/4，实在是没有很喜欢他的写作风格。另外一个视角了解帝国的崩溃吧。
这本书充分体现了什么叫做英语世界的无知愚昧与偏见。
