  • "Borges once claimed that the basic devices of all fantastic literature are only four in number: the work within the work, the contamination of reality by dream, the voyage in time, and the double. These are both his essential themes--the problematical nature of the world, of knowledge, of time, of t"
  • "I recalled that among the Ethiopians it is well known that monkeys deliberately do not speak so they will not be obliged to work, and I attributed Argos's silence to suspicion or fear."
  • "This doctrinal item observed that the lottery is an interpolation of chance in the order of the world and that to accept errors is not to contradict chance:it is to corroborate it."
  • "One of the schools of Tlon goes so far as to negate time: it reasons that the present is indefinite, that the future has no reality other than as a present hope, that the past has no reality other than as a present memory. Another school declares that all time has already transpired and that our lif"
  • "Everything is repeated many times, fourteen times, but two things in the world seem to be only once: above, the intricate sun; below, Asterion. Perhaps I have created the stars and the sun and this enormous house, but I no longer remember."
  • "Let others curse and weep; I rejoice the fact that our destiny completes its circle and is perfect."
  • "I shall remain in Borges, not in myself (if it is true that I am someone), but I recognize myself less in his books than in many others or in the laborious strumming of a guitar. Years ago I tried to free myself from him and went from the mythologies of the suburbs to the games with time and infinit"
  • "The literature of this hemisphere (like Meinong's subsistent world) abounds in ideal objects, which are convoked and dissolved in a moment, according to poetic needs. At times they are determined by mere simultaneity. There are objects composed of two terms, one of visual and another of auditory cha"

How wild his imagination can go! Highly logical and intelligent, a great enchanting read.
灵感源泉,has a rare and appreciable density, 很可能会是定义我这个人生阶段的书
认真把玩宇宙迷宫,最喜欢the immortal和the god‘s script
