作者简介
亨利·马什拥有30多年的丰富从医经验。他起初在伦敦皇家自由医院研习医学，于1984年担任皇家外科学院的研究员，1987年受邀担任英国古老的公立医学院——圣乔治医学院的神经外科高级顾问。2010年，他被授予大英帝国司令勋章。
马什医生是两部获奖纪录片的主人公：《你的生命在他们手中》获得皇家电视学会金奖，《英国医生》 获得艾美奖纪录片奖。后者以马什医生每年两次前往乌克兰进行定点医疗、为当地患者免费实施神经外科手术的真实经历为蓝本拍摄。

作者是脑外科顶级专家，书中却是非常坦诚地记录着自己的失败病例，对于失败病例的总结，以及医生自己作为患者作为濒临死亡患者家属的思考，构成一本值得推荐的书。

我承认，我承受不了做医生的压力。
不算医学科普书，属于纪实类，医学中比较偏人文视角的一本书，因为是医生的第一人称，读起来能够带入情绪感受到作为一名神经外科医生日常工作压力与成就感。神经外科手术是手术风险极大的疾病领域，手术失败后果也往往比其他手术失败的结果更严重——瘫痪、脑损伤，这种对一个患者生死决定权近乎是神权的日常工作，对医生来讲也要背负巨大的压力，作者没有把自己放在神位，对自己的失败和恐惧都异常坦诚，本书的意义是，医患关系应该更加“平等”一些，首先，需要认识到医生也是普通人，但就算医生不是神，也需要尊重、信任医生，形成良好的医患协作关系，尽全力面对疾病，面对未知。
