我在看哈佛幸福课的时候，老师推荐了这本书，当老师推荐到第三本时，我中断了视频课，把这本书找来读。所以原本是为了学习幸福。看这本书的时候，对Marva Collins的父亲很敬佩，有种有其父必有其女的感觉，想到Marva也说，孩子要成为厉害的人，要么他有strong的父母，要么则有strong的老师。她确实是好老师，用爱，严厉，及智慧让学生们不断进步。她对贫民区的黑人学生说，努力学习，你将有饭吃，有衣穿，得到你想要的一切。她教给他们阅读和思考，也以身作则教给他们种种品质。相当有启发性的一本书。
不记得是看谁的推荐买的这本书，我以为这本书是讲她在教育的路上如何成功，结果看了大半都觉得是一个人在教育道路上痛苦前行。同样作为一个老师，我对其中某些痛点深有体会。同样也作为一个老师，我能理解为什么有些人会对她的方法有所质疑。她的态度从始至终都非常谦虚，正如她自己所说，她只不过是一个能让学生学会读书学习的老师。但仅仅这一项成就，就足以说明一切。
