  • "On my way to one of those studios in Boston I have seen the magnolias bursting white down Marlborough Street. On my way to another in Dallas I had watched the highway lights blazing and dimming pink against the big dawn sky. Outside one studio in Houston the afternoon heat was sinking into the deep "
  • "It never comes when I am in real trouble. Tell me that my house is burned down, my husband has left me, that there is gunfighting in the streets and panic in the banks, and I will not respond by getting a headache. It comes instead when I am fighting not an open but a guerrilla war with my own life,"
  • "I have always wanted a swimming pool, and never had one. When it became generally known a year or so ago that California was suffering severe drought, many people in water-rich parts of the country seemed obscurely gratified, and made frequent reference to Californians having to brick up their swimm"

A friend told me the reason his ex-girlfriend broke up with him was this:" Hey man, you are great. But I'm still young and would like to sleep with a bunch of other guys." That's her understanding of feminism and her belief in realizing her value. People can really go to one extreme to another and miss the whole point of being a human being.
Borrowed from Berlynn who got it from Harvard book store and read it in the early summer days in Boston
Smart, chatty, self absorbed cat
Joan Didion
