一口气读完的，为数不多的“大家”写的人类学的科普著作。全书将人类学定位于帮助“我们如何生活”这一充满哲学意味的问题，基于“人类世”这一当下人类面临的最大现实，重新回顾了人类学的学科发展，理论演进过程，以及诸如“他者，参与观察，民族志”之类的能够体现人类学核心理念的关键，最终作者提出了一种超越社会文化与生物二分的整全人类学，并坚信人类学目的不是研究他者的知识工具，而是基于不同经验生活来推测和实践人类未来的可能生活
一本蛮有趣的小书。在思考作者会不会成为人类学转向中的重要一环：最早的人类学家喜欢溯源，搞“继承”逻辑；到结构主义、功能主义及后现代等学派或思潮，是关注如何解释“现时”世界；而作者是希望把人类学打造成一门“具有改变生活的能力”的学科，想借人类学拓宽人类未来发展的可能性，要做到这一条就必须直面人类学以往发展历程的遗留问题，即重新审视“文化”和“种族”。anyway，作者还是很有对全人类的关怀的，可惜我不太有这种关怀，只希望这种“从他人身上的学习”能够让自己具有发现世界的眼光和重塑生活方式的勇气。不过这也很重要吧。

前两章加又臭又长的序言太败好感，全是画饼和呓语。从第三章开始的科普对于初学者来说还是有所收获，讨论了人类学的内部阵营：体制/考古/生物人类学和社会与文化人类学的路线之争；英国社会人类学（关注社会生活中人们相互交往的方式）与美国文化人类学（人们拥有的信仰和知识传统应该如何传递给后代）；人类学的主要方法：民族志与参与式观察；以及社会学与人类学的差异。
