"throughout the 85 years of its academic success, Dunbar High School taught Latin. In some of the early years, it taught Greek as well. Its whole focus was on expanding the students' cultural horizons, not turning their minds inward. Still less was its focus on giving students as sense of victimhood "
"The picture too often presented might lead one to believe that it was all just a matter of prejudice and bigotry in American society that lead to such signs in the first place, leaving their disappearance in later times unexplained, except by some such generality as “progress” or by the efforts of t"
"The long social struggle that led to this result virtually disappears from history, as seen by those who make “prejudice” an all-purpose explanation. This not only deprives these and other minorities of credit for past improvements; more importantly, it deprives others today of a potentially valuabl"

2013我读过最好的书。TS个人前三。
I discovered Thomas Sowell recently, recommended by Steve Pinker in his book The Blank Slate. Since then I've read several Sowell's books, including A Personal Odyssey and Basic Economics. His books are full of common sense, deep insights and memorable phrases. This one is no exception. Strongly recommend.
