作者简介
Norman Lewis (born December 30, 1912 in Brooklyn, New York – died September 8, 2006 in Whittier, California) was an author, grammarian, lexicographer, and etymologist. Lewis was a leading authority on English-language skills, whose best-selling 30 Days to a More Powerful Vocabulary published by Pocket Books in 1971 promised to teach readers "how to make words your slaves" in fifteen minutes a day.

great reduction of information entrophy
1.作者简介错了，不是这位同名的作家，提交了但是豆瓣没有采用，如果有人看到可以点更新描述进去，选2006年去世的那位，帮忙加权修正一下。2.读单词书也能读到家乡哈哈，里面的places that made our language，satin词源是泉州。3. Not the urge to learn "words" - words are only symbols of ideas. But the urge to learn facts, theories, concepts, informations, knowledge, understanding. 4.单词难度比较低，也是很多年以前的书了，现在很多教学方法都较之进步了。

a magnum opus worth reading verbatim!
其实想打四星：作者一组生词的学习周期太长了；一个词底下的解释又有些臭长；而且有一些还没有给例句，这些没有例句的知道了意思你也不敢用啊，最后还是得去查韦氏和传统；词汇的水平和GRE应该相当吧，但是因为找的是词源清楚的、有规律的词，回避了一些可能真正困难的词，不能拿这本代替3000或者Barron。但是看到作者这么诚恳，几乎比VB的作者还要诚恳，还是打五星吧。。。
挺受益的，但高于我目前的水平，我还是去读韦小绿吧
啃完这本书本身对我意义就很重要。
看完啦，37天！用心的作者，逻辑缜密的编排，使本书读起来非常流畅而不费力，看完一章接一章。搭配的习题很好，不用像小绿那样要痛苦地自己回顾，很多地方可以看到作者用心地插入之前学过的词以加深印象。貌似有极个别勘误不知道什么原因。词根词汇入门神书，先看小绿再看小白效果好。
作者的知识面很广！看了一半，能理解作者所说的词汇量代表你对这个世界的认知程度！十分推荐！
核心理念比较吸引人，外语能力和智力、见识正相关。但理念重复很多次；很多专题都不太感兴趣也用不到（比如医学）。主要还是词根词缀法。
