  • "from early on, girls around the world are told that thy are vulnerable and weak. Parents, friends, an teachers decimate their power, snuff out that pilot light of anger so much so that research (Global Early Adolescent Study) shows that by the age o ten, girls believe they are indeed vulnerable and "

  • "chapter1 Anger Anger is important in girls because waiting for patriarchy to self-correct, to do the right thing, to do the moral thing, has got us not very far. Anger is a first step to putting patriarchy on notice that we are done waiting We will never upend the norms that we force onto girls that"
  • "...men challenged other men for power in order to secure a share of that power for themselves, not for equality and justice for all. They rarely if ever fought the patriarchy because they recognized how it benefited them."
  • "Chapter 2 Attention What does my symphony of ME, MYSELF, AND I sound like? It sounds like me taking up space, filling up an entire hall. It sounds like me saying I have earned that space and you will listen. It sounds like me shouting: I deserve this! And it sounds like me saying I am important, wha"
  • "Think of patriarchy as an octopus, with each of its tentacles representing the oppressions it utilizes to move through our world. We must be reciprocally nimble and multifaceted in our fight against it."
  • "You need a robust ego to be a feminist. You need a massive amount of faith in yourself and your right to be seen and heard in order to be a warrior against patriarch--because it is war. And one of the most effective ways that patriarchy disarms us, and leaves us insufficiently prepared for that war,"
