《亚当•比德》内容简介：乔治•艾略特原名玛丽•安妮•伊万斯（Mary Ann Evans）。由于当时女性写作不被看重.所以在出版《亚当•比德》时借用了情人乔治•亨利•刘易斯的名字取了笔名，并一直沿用。乔治•亨利•刘易斯是个有妇之夫，同时也是个记者、传记作家、文学批评家，对乔治•艾略特的写作影响很深。乔治•艾略特著述颇丰，除了其他文学作品外，她一生写作了7部长篇小说，每部小说动辄都有四、五百页。透过这些恢弘巨著，她不仅生动地再现了18世纪英国农村的农民、手工业者等普通平民的生活场景，而且在小说艺术上取得了令人瞩目的成就。

第一部长篇小说，7分
看了超级超级久，700页真的是够了，不过还好没有《米德尔马契》更久……看的这个版本女主角译成汀娜而不是黛娜，勃兰色太太真的是个妙人“他就是只公鸡，以为太阳出来就是要听他叫。”太好笑了哈哈哈，教化寓意很重，但是还是都在为情节服务，并不觉得突兀。
就书本身而言，从未见过的地得错用如此严重的书，错字也不少，有同音有形近。人名译法不一致，严重怀疑是分给几个学生锅，看都没看就汇总定稿了。最离谱的是借到的这本中间少了33页，靠文献传递才补上。因为老版没有纸质版才读的新版翻译，但是在接连三次翻车之后，对新译本的信任度已经直线下降。
读维多利亚小说，沉浸在那个丰富，生动的世界感到莫名的安心。乡村的一草一木，一个个鲜活饱满的农民形象。越是写具体而微的平凡人物，平淡日常，越需要开阔的胸襟。对人性有多少嘲讽也有多少温柔。赫蒂受难的部分读到哽咽，想到苔丝，想到尤斯塔西娅，不合时宜的美貌，不合时宜的梦或许是一杯苦酒，毒酒，然而正因为如此反而更具有悲剧意味。亚塔尔精神上的逐渐“堕落”也颇让人沉思，罪恶的结果往往不起于邪恶的心灵，一点点懦弱，一点点妥协，然后是让人无法琢磨的命运的因果。
狄狄赠书，深谢~19世纪的英伦小说永远是心头好，一切感情与技巧都古典（或曰朴拙）得令人无限宽容，连黛娜喋喋不休的宗教说教都可以忍耐了。艾略特笔触中自有那种惊鸿一现、灵光乍现的字句，珠玉一般，颇可赏玩。

乔治艾略特谈的是上帝，可她关注的焦点从不更易，始终如一。上帝和桌子椅子同处于在一个平面上，结果，我们却一刻都不曾觉得整个宇宙需要怜悯和爱，只有在海蒂的牢房里才需要它们。
读起来的感觉跟哈代蛮像的，很有意思的群像小说，每个人物都各有光辉。不过这个happy ending是不是突兀了点？
