Electrochemistry of Metal Chalcogenides

The author provides a unified account of the technical achievements in the field of electrochemical synthesis, structure controlling, and applications of metal chalcogenide compounds and alloys. In the first part, the basics of chalcogen chemistry and properties of their compounds are outlined while emphasising their significance in technology. The main part covers the electrochemical methods of synthesis that have been developed so far to produce MC materials. Two chapters are devoted to the thermodynamic data of the equilibria established in chalcogen-metal aqueous systems, and the scientific principles underlying the electrochemical formation of inorganic compounds and alloys, including an appropriate description of the preparation procedures. Subsequently, details are provided for the most important chemical families of the materials in question; the available facts and inferences regarding conventional films and novel structures, prepared via the electrochemical route, are discussed systematically. The book finishes by presenting the existing and potential applications of electrochemically obtained layers/coatings as well as of chalcogenide electrodes in electrochemical devices.
