Playful, serious, absurd, seductive and bodily, Legsicon is a major new publication by Laure Prouvost, published to accompany her current exhibition at M HKA, AM-BIG-YOU-US LEGSICON, from 8 Feb - 19 May 2019.
Legsicon indexes Prouvost’s tentacular thinking through a reimagining of the lexicon format, capturing the rich wordplay that animates her work through thirty-six guiding keywords. Provoust’s Legsicon is concerned less with what words say they mean than what they can’t help but end up meaning anyway, playing with puns, idioms and mistranslation to explore the absurdities that irrupt through the cracks in language. Rather than provide a clear outline of her thinking as an artist, the book instead opts to explore the poetic potential in uncertainty and ambiguity.
Each entry in the lexicon is an occasion for surprise and fascination, including a commissioned text, new drawings created by the artist and selected documentation of her related works.
