He leads the firm's Strategy Team, providing bespoke research to clients and partners on geopolitics, macroeconomics, and markets. Prior to joining the firm, Marko founded BCA Research's Geopolitical Strategy practice (GPS) in 2012, the financial industry's first dedicated political analysis investment strategy. He is the author of Geopolitical Alpha: An Investment Framework for Predicting the Future (Wiley 2020), a book that introduces his constraints-based framework to investors.
  • "At the same time, I was expressly hired to be the firm's Europe analyst. Given Stratfor's roots in "Great Power geopolitics," my position was the equivalent of being the admiral of the Swiss Navy. Most of the all-hands meetings were about Tomahawks, car bombs, and jihad. I usually got to fight with "
  • "In the battle of ideas, the Thatcher/Reagan supply-side - laissez-faire - won as decisive a victory over Mitterrand's demand-side - dirigisme - as one could imagine. Voters and policymakers across the developed world took note and adjusted behavior accordingly."
  • "I vehemently disagree. The pandemic has simply accelerated the paradigm shifts that began in the 2010s: geopolitical multipolarity, deglobalization, and the end of the Anglo-Saxon laissez-faire consensus."
  • "The COVID-19 crisis may have accelerated the inevitable, but America's turn from a laissez-faire economy into a dirigiste one had begun much earlier. For investors and businesses, geopolitical analysis became more important than ever."
  • "The second limitation of the intelligence model is that today’s geopolitical and political risks are no longer only investment-relevant to frontier and emerging markets (EMs). An intelligence-led model of political analysis might work in a simple political system, where access to the key decision-ma"

“From the above decade trends, I concluded that treating politics and geopolitics as an externality to markets made no sense.” “Falsehood flies, but truth comes limping after.”
"Preferences are optional and subject to constraints, whereas constraints are neither optional nor subject to preferences" 用词比较难读,各种吹自己过去反market consensus & had made the right call……
"Preferences are optional and subject to constraints, whereas constraints are neither optional nor subject to preferences." "Life is full of sacrifices, a product of constraints." Preference is about exploring inside, while constraints is about looking at the outside. I have to do both.
