Chihuly Seaforms

Part of Dale Chihuly's talent is making a highly complex art form appear simple and natural. Chihuly sought to strengthen glass by forming it in a ribbed mold, reinforcing the glass much as corrugation adds strength to cardboard. The glass, now traced circumferentially with radial lines, could withstand a more vigorous manipulation, especially shaking and crimping, which introduced longitudinal ripples and pleats.
