This study considers Thomas de Quincey and his critical engagement with Coleridge, Wordsworth, Burke and Kant. The author brings de Quincey's politics to the fore, considers de Quincey's lesser-known political writings and proposes the influence of Coleridgean politics in terms of De Quincey's unusual faith in the French revolution. De Quincey is usually seen as a disciple of Wordsworth, although his career has closer paralells with that of Coleridge. Daniel Roberts submits that de Quincey actually re-enacts and supplants Coleridge in the role of Wordsworth's literary assistant and interpreter.
