性别范畴作为一种被认为是“自然”的关系成为了异性恋社会的基础，并且通过它，世界上一半的人口，女人，被“异性恋化”，屈服于异性恋经济。性别范畴是异性恋社会的产物，它强制女性接受“物种”繁衍的义务。将“物种”繁衍的义务强加于女性身上，正是异性恋经济所依赖的剥削系统。
“it would be incorrect to say that lesbians as-sociate, make love, live with women, for "woman" has meaning only in heterosexual systems of thought and heterosexual economic systems. Lesbians are not women.”

不存在对立的两种性别，只有男人一种性别，男人这种性别象征着本体、历史、普遍性，女人没有性别，这个观点其实还是蛮新颖的

其实非常的理论，Wittig结合了大量辩证法，语言学，精神分析法的理论，整本书大概就是在deconstruct，要解构最本质的对立，颠覆所有的category，norm，language，所以才有了那非常有名的lesbian are not women。只是当时书里比较模糊的practical层面的东西，三十年后的现在也没有个答案，理论上永远是很美好很有建设性的，但是碰上practical paradox，那这永远都还是一个，非常无解的阶段。
