I read this book while I was exiled in Shanghai. My memory of Shanghai and history of Shanghai has been interlocked together because of this book.
Well documented. The saga of two Jewish family rise from ashes.值得思考犹太人起家的methodology. 扣一星主要是对比邓小平时代,这本更多的是从外来者角度观察中国,来获得类似于new yorker读者的同感,没有能够从更多角度读懂中国。
