我自己觉得小加图的那一篇应该是最有Plutarch个人的风格的吧？没人会觉得小加图是一个反面角色，而且他一般来讲还是最接近哲人王的一个，比如说Duff就持这种观点，但Plutarch力图展现的从来不是一个完人，而是一个正面角色身上展现出的种种冲突和张力：想要在政治上做一些改良但民众根本不买账；Plutarch甚至认为正是他的固执最后导致了共和国走向倾覆，但传记背后提出的问题则是，至少对于政治家而言，怎样，又该在何种程度上，在理想化的原则和政治现实之间做出妥协？这一点上小加图很难说是成功的，而这一问题则是留给我们的、具有普适性的难题之一。
