  • "One was if interest rates fell and remained below historic level. The second was if the share of the economy that went to inverstors, as opposed to employees and government and other things, rose above its already historically high level. Or, the economy could start growing faster than normal."
  • ""Spend less than you make." "Don't go into debt." "to respond to calamity with teeth-gritted optimism" "The big question about how people behave is whether they've got an Inner Scorecard or an Outer Scorecard. It helps if you can be satisfied with an Inner Scorecard." "In teaching your kids, I think"
  • "If he sold one stick to Virginia Macoubrie, he would have four sticks left to sell to somebody else, not worth the work or the risk."
  • "He wanted money. "It could make me independent. Then I could do what I wanted to do with my life. And the biggest thing I wanted to do was work for myself. I didn't want other people directing me. The idea of doing what I wanted to do every day was important to me.""
  • ""One lesson was not to overly fixate on what he had paid for a stock. The second was not to rush unthinkingly to grab a small profit.""
  • "Criticism is futile, said Carnegie. Rule number one: Don’t criticize, condemn, or complain."
  • "As for Warren, his father’s defeat left him heartsick, but also offered him an excuse for leaving the East Coast. He was bored at school and hated Philadelphia so much that he had nicknamed it “Filthy-delphia.” At the end of the spring semester he headed back home for good, so relieved that he signe"
  • "From his earliest childhood, Warren had always tried to avoid broken promises, burned bridges, and confrontation. Now Howard’s struggles branded three principles even deeper into his son: that allies are essential; that commitments are so sacred that by nature they should be rare; and that grandstan"

Life is like a snowball. The important thing is finding wet snow and a really long hill'.
4.7 stars. Respectation to the person, not only because of how he makes furtune.
Very disappointed. This book cannot even begin to compare with the Steve Jobs biography. The author obviously admired Buffet quite a bit and that's not exactly a great thing for a biographer writer. The unabashed admiration of money and status is also disturbing.
A good introductory book with tremendous details. Buffett is a bit cliche or old school nowadays but it helps break the stereotype. Content is more on life of Buffett and also touch points on some investment cases. Serve as a teaser for further reading on Inside the Investments of Warren Buffett: Twenty Cases as well as Letter to Shareholders
kinda boring
最感动的是you gotta be your own wet snow.
surprisingly interesting.....
