my favourite part is when they buried the white dog. The majority of this story is as boring and plain as their life in internment camp. But the last two chapters about their post war trauma and identity crisis salvaged the rest of the story, addressing the ethical dilemma Japanese commoners/Japanese American suffered during WWII.

在看这个小说的过程中，我都不知道有多挣扎。我第一次感受到了“中国人”的身份给我的心理带来的巨大影响。
只能回到过去看过去，而不能站在现在看过去。战争就是战争。有些片段看着来气。不同情。

故事梗概是二战期间，日本人是美国的敌人，这个时候，在美国的日裔就有点被别人指指点点了。在日本偷袭美国珍珠港之后，日裔美国人就通通被抓到集中营了。美名其曰：我们是保护你们。
故事主人公是一个优雅的日本家庭主妇，她的老公被美国政府抓去拷问，但是再也没有回来。在这个变故发生之后，她很隐忍，后来她也被带走了，于是她和女儿、儿子在集中营关了3年。
战争结束后，丈夫回来了，但是他的精神状态很差，社会地位也没了，家庭不复从前了。
全书印象最深的是White dog那一段和对妈妈的描写。其他的somehow感觉情绪很抽离。还是更喜欢作者的另一本
三点五星。Asian American literature 教材之一。老师说她本人非常喜欢这部小说。古今中外（好多年没用过这个词了，好奇怪的感觉），人类聚居在一起时，总会因为各种原因把人群划分为敌我两个阵营。弱势的一方想要在强势一方的统领下存活的话，不得不被迫消除自身那些使其被归类为敌人的因素。人群的撕裂，令我感到极大的哀伤。
当天皇还是神圣的，对于熟悉日裔二战经历和文学的人来说，不太新颖。引入一家四口三个视角来讲诉拘留前的审问，不安，途中的不适，定居后的烦躁和回家后的小心谨慎。即便不知道这一家四口的名字，即便叙事视角不同，每一个阶段的故事其实都在意料之中。相反，感觉otsuka有点夸大历史和拘留创伤。基本上这一家的夫妻二人都曾经或者现在都有点创伤后遗症。但不论纵向相比黑人，横向相比真实历史，那伤痛被描述地过于夸张，一致于阅读的时候不断在想到底他们经历了什么，但仔细想来，这些打击其实没有那么惨不忍睹。家人分离是事实，人未亡，路还在，生活变得确实更加迷茫未知但同时也很安逸。
触动到的其实是这个家里的妈妈，她应该出身较好，但非常有主体性。基本时不与我，她依旧将自己视为值得认真对待和尊重的自我。她饶恕自己也爱惜自己。
