Lost in the Funhouse is a collection of loosely connected short stories that was originally published by John Barth in 1968. These postmodern stories examine the art of fiction writing, among other things, and seem to undermine the conventional and predictable nature of fiction. In the fourteen stories, Barth presents a literary "funhouse," a dense maze that weaves in and out of plot, narration, and a self-conscious attention to the process of writing itself.

  • ""They never named a boy right off. What they did they watched to find out who he was They'd look for the right sign to tell them what to call him."
  • "As toward one's face, one's body, one's self, one feels complexly toward the name he's called by, which too one had no hand in choosing. It was to be my fate to wonder at that moniker, relish and revile it, ignore it, stare it out of countenance into hieroglyph and gibber, and come finally if not to"
Obsessed. 始于莫比乌斯环的无限,toy with homeric lines and forge them into postmodern Homeric fairy tales... We’re all lost in the funhouse.
lost in the literature and the literature of exhaustion
Night-Sea Journey & Ambrose His Mark & the title story ✔️ 1. Self-conscious and filled with existential anxiety. Our night-sea journey is without meaning. 2. The funhouse is fun for (language) lovers. Barth is a MASTER writer. One really has to SLAVE away at it to get that good.

Night-Sea Journey。
