The first time she saw him, she flipped. The first time he saw her, he ran. That was the second grade, but not much has changed by the seventh. She says: “My Bryce. Still walking around with my first kiss.” He says: “It’s been six years of strategic avoidance and social discomfort.” But in the eighth grade everything gets turned upside down. And just as he’s thinking there’s more to her than meets the eye, she’s thinking that he’s not quite all he seemed. This is a classic romantic comedy of errors told in alternating chapters by two fresh, funny new voices. Wendelin Van Draanen is at her best here with a knockout cast of quirky characters and a hilarious series of misunderstandings and missed opportunities. But underlying the humor are two teens in transition. They are each learning to look beyond the surface of people, both figuring out who they are, who they want to be, and who they want to be with. From the Hardcover edition.

  • "All I've ever wanted is for Juli Baker to leave me alone. For her to back off -- you know, just give me some space."
  • "The first day I met Bryce Loski, I flipped. Honestly, one look at him and I became a lunatic. It's his eyes. Something in his eyes. They're blue, and framed in the blackness of his lashes, they're dazzling. Absolutely breathtaking."
  • "You see, I caught up to him and grabbed his arm, trying to stop him so maybe we could play a little before he got trapped inside, and the next thing I know he's holding my hand, looking right into my eyes. My heart stopped. It just stopped beating. And for the first time in my life, I had that feeli"
  • "But all of a sudden my stomach completely bailed on me. Juli loved that tree. Stupid as it was, she loved that tree, and cutting it down would be like cutting out her."
  • ""Because the girl's got an iron backbone. Why don't you invite her over sometime?""
  • ""Proper lighting is everything, Julianna." …… "A painting is more than the sum of its parts," He took a deep breath. "I want the spirit of that tree to be with you always. I want you to remember how you felt when you were up there." He hesitated a moment, then handed me the painting. "So I made this"
  • "I'd never seen Juli cry before. Not when she'd broken her arm in P.E., not when she'd been teased at school or ditched by her brothers. Not even when they'd cut down the sycamore tree."
  • "She smiled and put her arm around my shoulders. "You don't have to be an immediate expert at everything, Juli. The idea here is to learn something new.""
if I'm bryce I wound definitely climb up on the sycamore tree at the very first time. Image how wonderful it would turn up to be held above the earth and brushed by the wind, it's like your heart has been kissed by the beauty.
All of a sudden, she felt flipped because of him and it can only be him. Then the world just turned into the brightest colour. Bling bling~~
The beauty of puppy love. You can see other's story of first love as a outsider. Nice Book!!!
very close
Find the one who will plant a sycamore tree for you.
