殖民、身份、种族议题去标签化写作典范，Jamaica Kincaid毫不掩饰她倾泻的愤怒，写安提瓜生活的细微层面，显示殖民的残暴和伪善，官僚系统的极度腐败，北美和欧洲（白人）游客的刻板行为与“旅游”这件事本身的悖谬和后殖民时代讽刺情景。被殖民的安提瓜人本就没有悠长的历史，在弹丸之地又丧失了时间的概念，在后殖民时期接受的教育使他们只能敬殖民者的神明，通过支离破碎的殖民者的语言来表达自己，透过殖民者来被世界认识。殖民者在剥去殖民身份的枷锁后重新成为一个人，奴隶被解放后也失去了道德上的高位，变成了人，但是过去的事情永远无法被抹去，也不能被改变了。
