Siu explores this question by examining a rural community in Guangdong Province from the late nineteenth century to the present.
Helen F. Siu is professor of anthropology at Yale University and founding director of the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Hong Kong.

读完了周末也快结束了… T.T ...
几年前看过，读完只记得主要观点。这次为了写论文再把相关部分翻出来看，发现细节全部都忘了，因为当时觉得这些细节和我的研究没太大关系，所以都没怎么认真了读。天呐 为什么一些老师能记得很多书每一章都在写什么啊。读书该怎么读啊。

用了很長時間斷斷續續地看完，真的是一個很精彩的故事，從明清講到上世紀八十年代，描述江門一帶鄉村變遷。研究的理論意義放到現在可能屬於理所當然，精彩和難以複製在於對自己本身行文和訪談故事的結合、表現出來的歷史悲劇感以及附在文中的圖片（蕭老師好會拍！）They were both agents and victims. We are both agents and victims.人在多大程度上受益於變革，人也在多大程度上難以阻止變革本身。
