Olivo Barbieri (1954) is one of the foremost international photographers. His research was initially concentrated on artificial lighting in western and eastern cities. Since 1989 he has been travelling regularly in the east, especially China. In 1996 the Museum Folkwang of Essen, Germany, held a retrospective. In 2003 he began the project site specific_ which involves several cities worldwide including Rome, Montreal, Amman, Shanghai, Seville, Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit, Brasilia, Rio de Janeiro, Bangkok, Mexico City, Istanbul and Tel Aviv. He has exhibited at the most important international museums, institutes and festivals such as MOMA San Francisco, Sundance Film Festival, Centre Pompidou, Tate Modern, Walker Art Centre Minneapolis and Museo MaRT di Rovereto. Numerous books and catalogues have been published on the artist’s work, which features in museums and public/private collections in Europe and the United States.
