It is in 1950s' Brighton that Marion first catches sight of Tom. He teaches her to swim in the shadow of the pier and Marion is smitten - determined her love will be enough for them both. A few years later in Brighton Museum Patrick meets Tom. Patrick is besotted with Tom and opens his eyes to a glamorous, sophisticated new world. Tom is their policeman, and in this age it is safer for him to marry Marion. The two lovers must share him, until one of them breaks and three lives are destroyed.

There are things you can't change. If you have to destroy to get something you want maybe it's better to leave quietly. // God all we need is a good listener, a tentative sentimental partner, a lover and a friend.

Oh man 这实在是太。。。Marion的部分看得我呃呃咿咿呀呀，Patrick的部分真的蛮好很动人。Tom一直都活在别人的叙述里。
Shows the brutality of the 50s' societal norms. I really love how raw and real it is when I see Patrick's love for Tom. However, the portrayal of Tom and Marion's characters are not quite adequate. It makes me wonder why this marriage has to last for so, so many years and why does it have to take 3 strokes for Tom to face Patrick again?
乏善可陈的故事，三个主角竟然没一个让我同情，Tom渣、懦弱、固执，除了英俊还有哪里好？人设和故事走向各种陈词滥调，Marion投身政治活动的线不了了之，结尾也不知道为什么要放到几十年后。多一星给audio的两位朗读者。你们为什么要拍这本书…难道就因为它的原型是EM福斯特…
单纯只是为了hlsd才读这本书的人，我理解你们给低评分的心思，但就我个人而言这本书还是相当值得一读的
男主金手指了让男女都一见钟情，被渣完还几十年如一日地着迷？
后面Tom的态度太过迷惑 Marion把Patrick带回家却对Patrick不理不睬 直到Marion告诉他Patrick可能只能再活一周就转变态度 我觉得Tom是爱Patrick的但是太自私了 怎么可能two people can peacefully share the same man?
从Marion的角度看，她的行为动机都是很明确的，但我并没有从她的复仇中获得快感，可能因为我也读了Patrick的日记，知道他的心情他的想法，所以也会与他共情。如果再加一章Tom的日记，会不会我也会与Tom共情，一定程度上原谅他的自私和懦弱?
很好奇电影会怎样展现这个故事，看书的时候直接代入Harry，导致现在听love of my life的时候总是想到Tom😂
当然Harry要演Tom了，吃lgbtq+人设红利这个角色简直100%适合哈哈哈
